At the very end of 2008, a young pianist named
Daniel Detoni was awarded Jeunesses Musicales Ivo Vuljević Award for the best musician of the year. Daniel won the title at the 20th anniversary of the Award, it being the 35th anniversary of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb where since 1988 the award celebration has been traditionally held.
The occasion brought together former laureates who are now successful professionals and well known musicians, such as horn player
Radovan Vlatković, the famous cellist
Monika Leskovar as well as cellists of the ensemble Cellomania:
Petra Kušan and
Luka Šulić. This prestigious ensemble of cellists led by famous cello pedagogue
Valter Dešpalj won the Special Diploma awarded by JM Croatia on the 20th Anniversary of the Award.
Daniel Detoni, as last year's winner, was invited by JM Spain for a tour of Spain that includes the concerts in León and performances at the International Piano Festival in Gijón during August 2009.
Over the years JM Croatia and JM Spain have developed very good cooperation in the exchange of young musicians winning JM national awards.
