The new session of The World Orchestra of Jeunesses Musicales will start in Bilbao (Spain) on the 19th of May. The session will feature a double program which includes a symphonic tour and a contemporary opera production in Teatro Arriaga Bilbao of Les Mamelles de Tirésias by Poulenc. Soloists María Bayo, Troy Cook, Itxaro Mentxaka, Mikeldi Atxalandabasolo, David Menéndez, Manel Esteve and Javier Tomé will join the orchestra in this production with stage direction by Emilio Sagi and musical direction by Josep Vicent. Performances of the opera will take place on the 28th and the 30th of May.
Following this the orchestra will tour Spain with a symphonic program which includes two pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich, Festive Overture and Cello Concerto n1 in E Flat Major, with young Spanish soloist Guillermo Pastrana, as well as The Unanswered Question by Charles Ives, Short Ride in a fast machine by John Adams and Petroushka by Igor Stravinsky. Concerts will take place in Palau Altea (3 June), Palau de les Arts Valencia (4 June), Auditorio Nacional Madrid (6 June) and Auditori de la Vila (7 June).
For third year The World Orchestra is renewing its cooperation with the Health Department for a concert against Drug Addiction in Palau de les Arts Valencia on the 4th of June.
This season the orchestra will have new members from Costa Rica and Paraguay, with the number of countries represented in The World Orchestra rising to 54.
On April 2nd The World Orchestra presented in glamorous Lavinia in Madrid its new CD Live Emotions with music by Stravinsky, Markevitch and Amargós achieving great reviews in the Spanish press and radio.
